Brandy Bus: An Extraordinary Place For a Stay In Karen

Many people who love travelling usually have that one extraordinary place they wish to visit or stay. Instead of looking way too far for a perfect place in Karen, Brandy Busy is the place to be.

Nestled at the heart of Karen, Brandy Bus is a vintage London double-decker bus which was renovated into a beautiful home. It is on a 5-acre property with beautiful gardens.

Brandy bus can accommodate six guests at one go. It has two single beds on the ‘ground floor’ which also act as sofa seats during the day and two double-decker beds upstairs.

Each room is fitted with Wifi, a hot shower in one of the bedrooms, stacks of books in each room and a fully stocked kitchen with utensils for self-catering.

What To Do

1. Visit David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

Visit this wildlife trust which raises orphaned black rhinos and elephants and reintroducing them back into the wild when they are older. You will see elephant calves and rhinos and can even adopt one if you wish for $50 which means you can go for a much more private viewing at 5.00 pm.

2. Go to The giraffe center

This center, which protects the highly endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, combines serious conservation with enjoyable activities. You can observe, hand-feed or even kiss one of the giraffes from a raised wooden structure, which is quite an experience. You may also spot warthogs snuffling about in the mud, and there’s an interesting self-guided forest walk through the adjacent Gogo River Bird Sanctuary

3. Visit the Karen Blixen Museum

This museum is about a 5 mins drive (or 15 mins walk) from the Brandy Bus. It is the farmhouse where Karen Blixen lived between 1914 and 1931. She left after a series of personal tragedies, but the lovely colonial house has been preserved as a museum. The museum is set in expansive gardens and is an interesting place to wander around.

4. Visit Kazuri Beads and Pottery Center

A free tour takes you into the various factory buildings, where you can observe the process from the moulding of raw clay to the glazing of the finished products. There’s also a gift shop with fixed prices.
